Professional Home Repair opens first stand-alone office in Haslett

Mike Barron makes his living fixing things for other people. And now that he's moved his residential and commercial repair business from his home to a new office, he says he has a long list of improvements on his own home he would like to undertake.

"That is if we can slow down for a minute," says Barron. "Business-wise, our phones keep ringing, so we must be doing something right."

Barron recently moved his 8-year-old Professional Home Repair company to his very first stand-alone facility in late 2014. The 1,000-square foot office at 5678 Edson St. in Haslett reflects his continual quest to expand his business while focusing on his number one priority: the customer.

"Our specialty is making the customer happy," says Barron. "Every day is a new project. The one thing we do is service."

Professional Home Repair is a full-service home repair and remodeling company that undertakes small jobs on the "honey-do-list" to more extensive flooring, plumbing, electrical and home insulation work. Tradespeople can be hired for landscaping, snow removal, power washing, gutter cleaning, tree trimming, and a range of home repair, upkeep and maintenance jobs.

Barron founded Professional Home Repair with his wife and best friend in 2007. He started out running the business from his home in Lansing, and then moved to Haslett a little over a year ago. He says he launched the business on the cusp of the Great Recession to answer the needs of homeowners who were opting to fix or remodel rather than to buy new.

The building on Edson Street, he says, provides a home base for his 15 contractors, two office staff, and his nearly 500 customers a year. Customers can come in for consultations, to ask questions, or to see samples of roofing, siding or other materials related to a job.

"We're proud of how far we've come," he says. "We used to joke that we were 'two chumps in a truck.' Now we're an 'elite handyman' service with different, skilled trades under one roof. We've come a long ways."
